Graduate Jobs

There is a large opportunity for employment for University Graduates whether that be in the private or Government sector. Obviously it's important for Graduate students to gain experience in the workforce with lots of companies hesitant to employ them without first gaining some kind of work experience. For this reason the most likely source of employment for graduates is either the Government or large organizations of which some have graduate programes.

If Graduates do find work in the government then conditions of employment are usually very good. Some graduates even find employment within the government prior to finishing studying with the government on occasion making available study time to attend courses during working hours. Government jobs are usually very flexible in their working practices which makes employment appealing to graduates or those who have not yet finished their degrees. They are entitled to Sick Leave, Annual Leave, Long Service Leave, Compassionate Leave and Maternity Leave. There are full time and part time positions available within the Government and leave is based on a pro rata basis if you are employed in a part time position.

Some sectors of Private Enterprize also offer graduate training programes, this is normally the case with large organizations. Whilst working within the company Graduates usually have an opportunity to experience a wide range of areas and business practices within the organization. Graduates taken on by companies are usually bright young individuals with excellent academic reports.

There are many different areas for graduate students to seek work, whether that be in the Arts, Business and Administration, Engineering and Building management and Science just to name a few.

There will be lots of cases where graduates will be competing for the same position who all have the same level of degree so it is important for Graduates to have some sort of work experience behind them. In lots of cases Graduates who have taken up work experience with a company will be offered a graduate position first so if you can get some work experience on your CV it would certainly help. Just because you have graduated doesn't guarantee employment as a lot of Graduates are often unemployed for quite some time after finishing University and others who do find employment don't find it in the field they're qualified in.

After gaining ones qualifications the next step for Graduates is to try and find employment within the field they've graduated in. This can be done a number of ways, as mentioned above doing work experience at a company may pay off or at the very least give you some actual working experience. Apply for positions with companies your interested in working for by filling in application forms and leaving your CV with them. Keep checking the company's websites as a lot of company's will actually advertise on their own websites. Put your name down with more than one employment agency as this will broaden your chances of finding employment.

If your not successful immediately in gaining employment then it's important to keep optimistic as if your continue to actively seek work you will no doubt eventually be successful in finding suitable employment.
