Plumber Jobs
Plumbers are professionals who work on the piping systems of a structure. These individuals can be employed in small projects, such as domestic work, or in large projects, such as industrial factory work. Some of the systems that plumbers work on include toilets, sinks, heating, air conditioning, drainages, and sewer systems. Because of the variety of job orders that plumbers can receive, they are often required to be experienced and licensed in their field. Certification is also given when plumbers are well qualified and experienced in a certain plumbing system.
Responsibilities of a Plumber
Plumbers are often part of a company or union which accommodates plumbing services to commercial, industrial, or residential areas. There are also plumbers who are not part of a union, and work individually. Domestic services plumbers are often individual workers who are hired through references or ads. Since plumbing systems handle basic needs such as water and heating, it is important that plumbers follow strict rules and regulations regarding health and safety. Plumbers are frequently asked to perform some of the following tasks:
- Installation, reparation, and replacement of sinks, shower-heads, washing machines, and toilets
- Cleaning and maintenance of piping for water, drainages, heating, and other systems
- Installation and maintenance of air conditioning and heating units
Qualification and Requirements
Although plumbers are usually not required to have any formal education, they often have to undergo testing and training to achieve licensing and certification in their field. This profession is both technical and practical. Plumbers have to work with diagrams, instruction manuals, and blueprints in order to plan out and execute the job at hand. Aside from this, plumbers work with various hand tools, like wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers. Physical strength, dexterity, and good hand-eye coordination is needed to perform many of the basic plumbing tasks. Plumbers must also be able to work in confined spaces and in awkward positions in some cases. Compensation for this job is good, however it is scaled to one's qualification, experience, and job details.
