Plants add to the beauty of any location. They give color and life to areas which are otherwise bland and ordinary. However, poor maintenance of these plants can lead to deterioration which makes the site even uglier. Thus, many households often have gardener jobs to ensure that their flora is in good shape. The salary of a gardener is at a low-level range but can be priced higher in larger establishments. Gardeners do not usually require a degree but those who have finished agriculture courses have an advantage compared to other applicants. Passion for plants is necessary to excel in this profession and those who lack this will have a hard time working in this environment.
Gardeners are not just enclosed within households and buildings. They may be hired by local government units to work in national parks and forests. Their main task is to manage the trees and shrubbery in these locations and protect the environment from hazardous wastes. Gardeners must be knowledgeable in seed cultivation and preparation of soil beds for planting. They must also be able to assess the health of plants by examining their different parts. Gardeners should also be able to work with different chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides to maintain the quality of the plants in the specified area.
The work of a gardener is physically demanding, similar to other domestic services jobs. They must be able to work comfortably in spite of exposure to plants and chemicals that may give allergies. Weather should not be a factor for gardeners as sometimes they may be needed to be in the field during extreme conditions. Observation skills are necessary in this profession. Gardeners must know when a plant is simply lacking water or is already dying due to lack of necessary elements. Design skills are also important as some households want their gardens to look elegant by incorporating shapes and forms on their plants.
