Supervisor Jobs

Construction supervisor jobs are the types of jobs involving the overall management and supervision of the different tradespeople in a construction site. Examples of tradespeople being supervised by the construction supervisor include bricklayers, carpenters, cement mixers, machinists, painters, plasterers, riggers, roofers, scaffolders, shopfitters, steel erectors, steel fabricators, stonemasons, tilers, and welders. Aside from the tradespeople, the construction supervisor is also needs to keep an eye on construction apprentices.

Your tasks and responsibilities as the construction supervisor include the planning of schedules, the safekeeping of records, the delegation of tasks, the handling of complaints, the training of tradespeople and apprentices, the monitoring of tradespeople performance, and the supervision of project operations. As the construction supervisor, you are also responsible for the preparation of reports and other paperworks related to the project operations.

Being the construction supervisor requires you to be very observant at all times. Because you have to keep track of the latest progress on the operations by recording every detail, you have to check on the tradespeople regularly. You need to make sure that everyone of them is doing their assigned task properly. The other aspects of the construction project that you have to check on regularly are equipment efficiency, project costs, and safety measures. Your daily reports and findings have to be submitted directly to the site manager.

There are no specific academic requirements for construction supervisor jobs, however, most employers prefer applicants who are at least high school graduates. You need at least two to three years of previous working experience in the construction business before employers consider you for supervisor jobs. Being a union member can also be an advantage. Having a background in building construction, construction engineering, project management, or strategic planning will be very beneficial. Further advancement in supervisor jobs will lead you to superintendent or contractor positions.
