Office Fit Out worker Jobs

If an office looks drab and boring, an office fit out or commercial renovation is needed. That's when office fit out workers are required.

Office fit out worker jobs cover varieties of jobs that involve providing building or office tenants with services such as heating, lighting fixtures, water supply, electrical supply, fire protection, waste and garbage disposal services, and a lot more.

Office fit out worker jobs are held or occupied by labourers who have varied specialisations. Interior designers, interior decorators, plumbers, carpenters, glaziers and many more comprise the office fit out worker jobs.

On the job

Building jobs such as office fit out worker jobs require varied qualifications depending on the area or field of assignment. Office fit out workers may perform some or all of the following depending on their specialisation:

• coordinate with client, architect or engineer on the specifications for the project
• study and interpret blueprints, drawings or plans of the project
• prepare designs and drawings for client approval
• prepare cost estimates for client approval
• install, repair and maintain electrical supply and wirings in the office building
• install, repair and maintain lighting fixtures
• install, repair and maintain pipings in the building
• install garbage and waste disposal systems in the office
• install and service alarm and security systems in the office.

What you should have

There are no set educational requirements for some office fit out jobs. There are areas of specialisation, however, that require a degree or formal education such as interior designers. Most office fit out worker jobs require that you have undergone apprenticeship, and have gained experience on the job. Some fit out jobs require certifications and licences.

You must demonstrate knowledge on a specific office fit out job of your specialisation. Knowledge of building and safety regulations is important. Knowledge and understanding of legislations, policies and regulation in dispensing of one's particular specialisation are necessary.

You must be physically fit and have good hand-eye coordination. You must also possess good communication skills. Your knowledge and ability on operating hand tools and power tools could work to your advantage.
