    Building Technician Jobs

    Building technicians hold an important role in construction. From the preparation and procurement of construction materials, to the assessment and application of construction methods, building technicians have an array of responsibilities to tend to. The nature of the profession calls for both office work and on-site work. Building technicians work closely with suppliers, contractors, engineers, architects and labourers in order to provide the materials and general supervision needed for the smooth execution of the project.

    What Do Building Technicians Do?


    Although there are many aspects of construction that building technicians must tend to, there are a number of key tasks that they complete. By working with suppliers and sub-contractors, building technicians acquire the needed materials and equipment for the project. The job also calls for the estimation of costs and budgets for the entire project including the cost of materials, construction workers, and equipment. As part of this task, building technicians are also required to negotiate for the best prices while still assuring quality.

    On-site tasks include the preparation of the construction site by managing floor plans, safety, and delivery schedules. Computer-aided design (CAD) software is also used by building technicians in order to read and understand architecture and engineering plans. At times, building technicians are also asked to make drafts or designs for the project. Management, problem-solving, and supervision regarding working conditions, schedules, and construction methods are also performed by building technicians.

    What is Needed to Become a Building Technician?


    Since building technicians are responsible for adjusting the schedules of construction projects, most employers ask for professionals who are experienced in the field. This experience will aid in the knowledge of building, safety, and health regulations. Education in courses that relate to building construction is often required. Good teamwork and communication skills are required to be successful in this line of work. Compensation is scaled to qualification, experience, and project details.
