Mac Operator Jobs

Mac operators are trained to use Mac operating systems for various office applications. The term usually refers to graphic design jobs, which often use Mac computers for optimum speed and image quality. Many employers are small to medium businesses, but the higher paying ones are big companies that have dedicated design departments. Mac operator jobs are mostly in-office, so don't expect many travel opportunities. Common employers include design and architecture firms, TV and film studios, printing presses, publishers, and advertising agencies.

Mac operator jobs pay an average of AUD$37,000 a year, but the pay can increase to around $47,000 for officer or department head positions. Specializations such as film editing and animation can also increase your value.

Job description

The Mac operator used Mac-based programs to produce necessary material or perform office tasks, from sending e-mail to creating proofs and layouts. Depending on the company, he or she may also participate in planning as part of a team. Other tasks you might expect include:

• Receiving and executing assignments received from clients or other departments
• Creating a timeline for deliverables on a project, and keeping superiors updated on the progress
• Communicating with clients or managers regarding project requirements
• Performing revisions or edits on delivered work as necessary
• Assisting with design planning and other aspects of the project
• Working with other team members to create a seamless workflow and final product

Job requirements

The qualifications for a Mac operator job largely depend on the position and nature of the company. While many are skill-based, a bachelor degree is required for most positions since they call for specialized knowledge and often involve strategic and critical thinking. The following skills may also come in handy:

• Fast pickup for learning new systems and software
• Willingness to work shifts, especially for prepress jobs
• Ability to excel both as an individual and as part of a team
